The "Midnight in Barcelona" illustration is the first drawing of the series and represents how it all commenced. On one hot evening in Spain, where I studied my master's in design.
I was fascinated by Gaudi's art and inspired by the beautiful houses in the south of Spain, so I started exploring details and patterns until they caught a form. The form of a city, an illustration that later got the title of "Midnight in Barcelona", as it was midnight when I finished painting it.
The illustration explores details of Barcelona's colorful Park Güell, the La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, and Casa Batlló. I was so inspired by Gaudi's beautiful and intricate works of art, colors and details of the houses, and the summer atmosphere in Barcelona.
By using details from the Art Nouveau movement and specific ceramic tile colors, the Barcelona illustration is bright and colorful, under a sun-kissed Spanish sky.
